Fantastic Damage issue 1 pgs 1-10

Here are the first ten pages of a comic written by myself and drawn by Jared Lewis. We did it earlier this year, now we’re both onto other stuff, and I thought we should throw it out into the world before it gets old. It’s a spy comic, the overall story we planned out was indebted equally to The Prisoner, The Avengers, Cowboy Bebop, Point Blank, Shane Black, and Miller/Janson. Additional to that, we were thinking that every issue was colored with a different set of genre rules and references (i.e.: this first issue was us all jacked up on John Woo and Masamune Shirow). Its the first thing either of us have ever done, and it was a learning experience. Right now, we’re working on some other things, hopefully you’ll get a look at them sooner rather than later.

This is Fantastic Damage 01 – “Alive in Japan” pgs 1-10. Let us know what you think.

  3. Yeah, comics are the best, aren’t they? Thanks for reminding me of that Sean/Jared!

    Great work guys

This is way beyond what most people would expect from a first effort…so if this is where you two guys were starting from, we can reasonably expect big things from you both in future.

The best parts of the art are the character designs and the body language (if that’s the term I want? I’m not sure). I’ve got to be honest, the page layouts and some of the panel choices are dodgy — the first two pages in particular could have been thought out more — but it’s the only aspect that suggests the work of a newcomer. (And even then, it’s superior to a lot of published work out there.) Bottom line, this wins me over and I’d want to see more. Or, as may be, whatever other projects you guys do.

On a personal note: you bastard! If I’d had a collaborator like Jared, plus your innate talent, I’d have conquered the world by now.
